Sounders vs. LA Strikers (PREVIEW)

Tukwila, WA – The Sounders Women will try to stay in a playoff position for the Western Conference as they play against the LA Strikers in their 6th match of the 2012 W-League campaign this Sunday on Father’s Day. The June 17th match, at Starfire Sports kicks off at 4:00pm.
Currently, the Sounder’s record is 4-0-1 which puts them in second place in the Western Conference behind the Pali Blues, who are in first place with a record of 7-0-0. The Sounder’s Women had a 4 game winning streak and are coming off of a 0-0 tie against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Sounders have scored eight goals in the 2012 W-League season with Veronica Perez and Megan Manthey leading the squad with 2 goals each.
With Team USA players, Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, and Megan Rapinoe unavailable for this match due to Olympic preparations, the Sounders will be lead by U.S. Olympic Camp talents, Keelin Winters (MF) and Stephanie Cox (D). In addition, Perez (MF) and Kate Deines (D) will look to continue their standout performances.
The LA Striker’s record is 1-4-0. Their lone victory, 3-0, was against the Victoria Highlanders on June 8th in California. The Strikers lost 3-1 on Wednesday to the Whitecaps on their road trip, and will match up against Victoria for the 2nd time on Friday night. The Sunday game against the Sounders will be their last match of the 3 game, 6 day, road trip.
The leading scorer for the Strikers is forward Sam Johnson, who is going to be finishing up her college career this fall at USC. Two other key players to watch out for are forward Amy Chapman and midfielder Caitlin Munoz, who both have experience with the Australian National Team.
