Sounders Women and Sounders U23 take points

Sounders Women beat OSA to stay alive followed by Sounders U23 win over Highlanders

With over 500 people watching in the stands at Sunset Stadium in Sumner, the Sounders Women started off the fireworks with a 1-0 win over OSA to keep their playoff hopes alive.   Immediately following the Sounders Women game, their Sounders U23 counterparts took down the Victoria Highlanders 4-1 to also stay in the hunt with two games remaining.

OSA came to town needing to win out to keep in the playoff hunt in the WPSL standings.   The Sounders Women also needed the win as the WPSL NW Division playoff spot is still up for grabs with a resurgent NSGSC team owning the driver’s seat going into the weekend games.   This game featured many former Sounders Women players for OSA including head coach Malia Arrant and players Chalise Baysa and Alexa Diaz.  Both Baysa and Diaz were busy on the day with Baysa scoring an offsides goal.    The physical game finally broke open with Kaycie Tillman scoring off a quality delivery from Tyla Jay Vlajnik.  The goal would be the game winner and the Sounders Women now await the results of other WPSL games to see if the season will be extended.

Following this exciting WPSL match, the Sounders U23 team welcomed the Victoria Highlanders in what would be the breakout goal-scoring game to this point in the 2017 PDL season.  Eddie Na found the onion bag in the 26th minute to start off the night on a cleverly weighted pass from Trevor Jensen.   In the 40th minute, a hard cross would deflect off Kasey French and into the Sounders U23 net to knot the score at 1-1 for halftime.   Troy Peterson was injected into the lineup to start the second half and scored immediately with a 47th minute strike from Yoshi Chaffin.   Derek Johnson would hammer home a penalty kick in the 65th minute and Ryan Schaefer got into the act with a 90th minute tally to end the game 4-1 in favor of Sounders U23.

Both the Sounders Women and the Sounders U23 team await other games in the busy summer schedules to see where their playoff hopes sit.   Sounders U23 have a two-game road trip to Canada next week to take on TSS Rovers and the Highlanders again.  Stay tuned for news about playoffs!
